Angove’s has just recently started to promote their Vineyard Select wines from their various South Australia holdings here in the US market. So far the assorted wines we have tried have been solid, offering good premium quality without a hefty price tag. The 2005 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the elegant side of Cabernet but in a fuller bodied format. Riper tannins on the back end make this quite accessible right now with enough clinch and grip to really accentuate the suppleness of the mid palate’s sleek texture. Just enough of the region’s savory earth tones come into play with the varietals leafiness playing a nice supporting role to the red and black fruits. This shows beautiful balance with the structure to evolve nicely over the next 5-6 years.
