Sourced from high altitude fruit the moniker here is wine with an altitude. What you get is a wine with a cast of savory characters underpinned with a core of sweet ripe dark fruit, resulting in something that not only has loads of personality it has the stuffing that speaks way above its modest price tag. Lots of toast and mocha along with sweet earth, cracked pepper and some feral, game notes to the core of dark plum and mulberry fruit on the nose speak highly of the varietal and the lavish, but well balanced oak treatment the wine was given. Sweetly fruited with the spicy notes of the nose carrying over into the palate, this really shows exceptional balance and pedigree. Medium fuller to fuller bodied with fine grained tannins this generously fruited Shiraz is still evolving with prospects for another 6-8 more solid years ahead of it. A Double Gold Veritas award winner for all the right reasons, this is quite impressive.
