This is impressive for its amazing balance and elegance while holding to a core of beautiful currant and black cherry fruit, touched up with a nuance of tobacco, cedar spice and an ever so faint note of the varietal’s vegetative component. While not the strongest proponent of Barossa Cabernet as an everyday choice, trying this proves that there are exceptions to the rule. The vintage plays a great part in the equation as this has a bright and vibrant pitch to the fruit as the supporting components of a long, cool growing season that saw grapes come in perfect condition - ripe fruit, ripe tannins and ample acidity that brought forth the prospects of good aging potential. Medium-fuller bodied and endowed with well proportioned tannins, the fruit has a delicious vibrancy and pitch, with the structure for at least 8-10 more years of aging. This is drinking impressively and considering the price this is almost ridiculous for the quality it offers.

90 pts Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar July/August 2005 ($35) Deep red. Vibrant, assertive aromas of espresso-tinged redcurrant, red plum and potpourri. Fresh and energetic in the mouth, showing juicy crushed berries, tarragon and bitter chocolate, with spicy oak accents. Supple and gently tannic on the finish, the berry fruit and oak spices convincingly meshed.
