Nine Popes is a word play on Chateauneuf-du-Pape using some of the similar grape varietals but offering up an Aussie slant along with some of the Down Under humor. But make no joke about the quality of wine Charles Melton makes for his Nine Popes. The 2005 version is an absolute cracker.
Vibrant and fresh with a core of brilliant bright fruit is the first thing that comes to mind when you try this wine. The fruit is sweet and rich yet not out of balance with fine grained tannins that gives this a seamless structure. Impressive for its scale and balance this should really develop over the next few years and drink beautifully for up to 8-10 years.
