Cigale is a new label, this, the 2005, is the 2nd release from Peter Schell and his wife Magali Gely out of the Barossa Valley. Only around 100 cases were produced and the second vintage of this wine keeps up the momentum and doesn’t miss a beat from the outstanding 2004 which got rave reviews from the Wine Spectator. From all appearances this is equally as good and for the asking price it really over delivers in price and quality. This has a core of sweet fruit - cherry, dark strawberry, then plum, with a savory licorice element, quite vibrant and sweet, yet dry on the finish. Medium bodied, gushing with juicy red fruit at its core, backed with powdery tannins, the finish is lingering with a nice cut of balancing acidity that keeps everything bright. |

Lithe and silky, with a lovely core of blackberry and floral flavors, hinting at mineral and roasted meats as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2012. 90 pts The Wine Advocate
The dark ruby-colored 2005 Grenache (40%) – Mourvedre (32%) – Shiraz (28%) spent 10 months in seasoned French oak. It offers an alluring bouquet of cedar, forest floor, clove, saddle leather, game, and black cherry. Medium to full-bodied, it is velvety-textured, concentrated, and layered with spicy red fruits. There is enough structure to carry this Chateauneuf du Pape-like wine for 10-12 years. |
