Philip Shaw is regarded as one of Australia’s truly gifted winemakers. His venture which is based out of the higher elevation GI of Orange in New South Wales is producing some pretty serious wines. The 2007 Climbing Chardonnay is a real beauty blessed with an abundance of cool climate fruit with the supporting acidity this has a lovely fruit purity touched up nicely with some well judged oak. Surprising depth and palate feel for a wine that sets around 13% alcohol this has impressive structure and balance which will surprise those who often times pigeon-hole Aussie wines for being monolithic, high alcohol fruit bombs. Impressive and truly classy for the money, you can pay a heck of a lot more and not come anywhere near this quality.
