Tasting Notes

Family owned and operated, Forrest Wines have defined ‘Quintessential Marlborough' since 1988. Dr’s John and wife Brigid Forrest are Forrest wines, applying their farming heritage and scientific background to the craft of winemaking. John was a molecular biologist and Brigid was a medical doctor before putting their professional lives behind them and followed their passion in the pursuit of making premium wines. Now over 20 years old Forrest Estate owns seven and manages a further two vineyards, totaling 130 hectares, which are all located in the Wairau river valley of Marlborough. The wines they produce are now highly acclaimed at home in New Zealand and internationally, where they are recognized for their exceptional quality and value. Made from vines with an average age of 12 years, this stylistically is a refined, more elegantly structured wine that plays into Pinot Noir’s more feminine side while still offering a core of delicious fruit shaded with some floral and herbal tones. Light ruby red in color, the nose is quite engaging with vibrant and racy red fruits interspersed with a floral lift touched up with a slight complimentary note of underbrush and oak spice. Medium to medium full bodied with flavors of raspberry and pomegranate, this has a lovely, textural feel to the palate, silky and sleek with smooth tannins leading into a long, polished finish. Drinking beautifully as we speak, this should offer up exceptional drinking over the next couple of years.

Winemaker Notes

Our Pinot vines are now on average 12 years old, and are developing greater depth of fruit complexity and tannin structure as they age. Wines that combine grace and generosity when they are made with restraint and respect. Fermented in small open-top tanks, hand plunged, and aged in 30% new/70% French barrels, allowing Marlborough’s lovely fruit flavours to shine through. The 2008 Pinot has delicious flavours of blackberry pie and dark red cherries with a distinct note of lavender and violets. In its youth this Pinot has a delicate palate, soft round and attractive drinking with sweet savoury, spicy after taste.
