Deep ruby-red. Enticing, multifaceted nose offers black raspberry, plum, fresh herbs, mocha and smoky tobacco, with a complicating whiff of game; aeration brought higher-pitched red fruits, spices and flowers. Lush on entry, then ripe but quite firm in the middle, with no easy sweetness to the deep berry, mineral and smoke flavors; black fruit at the start but more red on the back. Well-integrated acidity and serious but suave tannins give this wine a powerful structure for aging. Finishes subtle and quite long. 91 pts Wine Enthusiast June 2011
Balanced and forward with enticing notes of cedar and smoked meat among aromas of mulled blackberries and licorice. Lush dark black fruit floods the velvety mouth, while tobacco and sweet spice linger through the lengthy close.
