From the cooler Darling region just north of Cape Town this shows a lot of the Pinot Noir characteristics of the hybrid, just with more heft – lots of earthy forest floor, damp earth notes with dark plum and dark red fruit tones, a touch brambly, and then a nice spice lift to the nose. Medium fuller bodied with concentrated fruit and lacking any detracting charcoal notes, this is easy to see why this is regarded as one of South Africa’s best Pinotages. Very few people outside of South Africa are aware of the name but it has been one of South Africa’s top Pinotages over the last ten years, garnishing numerous awards and accolades along the way.
