5 Stars 2018 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
Thought-provoking 14 (*****) is 85% shiraz – 5% up on 13, with mourvedre & viognier from Voor Paardeberg. Bold fruit core well harmonized with oak, opulently enveloped with spice, prune & rosepetal. Natural winemaking gives a seamless & sophisticated wine.
The Bernard Series was named after Bernard Podlashuk, the visionary co-founder of the Bellingham brand and maverick winemaker. Never quite satisfied to be just ordinary, he is recognised for his daring vision, sheer audacity and unabated drive that helped place South African wine on the map. The legend of his tenacity and innovative flair lives on through the Bernard series, Bellingham’s premium range of hand-crafted wines
Handpicked from the best vineyard sites with individualistic expressions of Shiraz, Mourvedre and Viognier. As a tribute to Bernard’s audacious nature all three grape varieties are harvested, then crushed and fermented together and matured in small French oak barrels. These barrels form the focal point of making this wine, creating the prefect environment for the three varietals to marry and give life from an early age to a synergy of graceful violet and winter spice aromatics supported by powerful black berry fruit flavours.
