Australia gets pigeon holed by consumers when it comes to Shiraz. Most wine drinkers when they think of the category equate the varietal as being over the top or full blown in style. Once this perception sets in in the consumer’s mind it becomes a reality, which is definitely not the case. There are great examples to counter this, with one particular producer, Best’s Wines, making wines that display elegance and supple textures to their Shiraz.
Blessed with some eye-catching reviews, 2019 Best’s Bin No. 1 is a classic, cool-climate Shiraz, made in a style that’s floral, spicy and peppery yet retains generous fruit characteristics and intensity. Located in the Grampians region of western Victoria, it’s a well-balanced wine where alcohol does not dominate. This is an elegant wine crafted to drink now, and makes a great accompaniment to food.

A spicy and super-fragrant, cool-climate shiraz that is packed with red and dark plums, raspberries and dark chocolate. Plenty of complexity inherent here. The palate is elegant, yet flavor-packed, delivering punchy, mouthwatering summer berries and plums. Wow! Drink over the next decade. Screw cap.

Regional DNA abounds in this purple-stained, black-hearted young shiraz chock-full of spice and delicious berries. A shiraz for both now and later such is its immediate upfront, plummy appeal, while boasting a tight tannin structure that won’t quit.

A warm, dry growing season meant that the vines ripened quickly, and crops were lower than average. Sufficient water supply ensured the grapevines remained in good health and some February rain gave the vies a well-deserved drink and freshened them up before the grapes were harvested.
Bin 1 Shiraz represents the essence of Best’s winemaking ideals and the uniqueness of the Great Western region.
