4 ½ Stars 2021 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
Significantly larger production than sibling high-end pinotages (20,000 cases) yet never fails to impress. Textbook varietal fruit on 18 (90 pts) – perfumed black & red berries leading to creamy, balanced & richly layered palate. 14 months in barriques, 10% new, provide structure for 6-10 years cellaring.
90 pts Tim Atkin MW 2020
Super value from Anri Truter, who seems to have inherited his father’s sure touch with Pinotage, this is a textbook expression of the variety, all bramble and strawberry fruit, subtle vanilla oak, fine tannins and a glossy palate. A pleasure to drink. 2020-24.
4 days in open fermenters with the cap punched through by hand every two hours. Fermentation temperature was between 24 – 28°C. After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matured in 15% new and 85% second French oak barrels for 14 months.
Bundles of blackberry and prune flavors upon entry which combine well with the cedar oak aromas from Barrel maturation. A wine with good structure, excellent balance, and a long juicy finish. This wine will pair well with any spicy curries or traditional Bobotie. Enjoy upon release, but will develop well for up to 10 years.
