Calathus Gran Corte 2015

Tasting Notes

March 2018 – Less than 420 cases were produced of the 2015 Calathus Gran Corte, which is a blend of 85% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot that was aged for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd year oak. This is beautifully poised showcasing vibrant red and darker red fruit with the oak regimen giving nice textural support without detracting from the vibrant fruit base. The wood spice adds a touch of smokiness and is well integrated with wet herbs and a kiss of licorice richness flowing into lifted red and darker red fruits of cherry and plum on the nose. Medium fuller to fuller body the palate is supple and seamless with sweet darker cherry and plum flavors that are juicy and nuanced with a touch of spice. The tannins are finer grained, almost powdery and nicely integrated saying you can start to enjoy now and enjoy over the next 3 plus years. This had good depth and balance leading to an impressive conclusion.
