Vineyard located within the coolest, westernmost reaches of the Casablanca Valley. Grown on hillside blocks facing from north-east to north-west. Vineyards planted between 2000 and 2010, equipped with drip irrigation. Crop levels are an average of 8 tons per hectare (3.5 tons per acre). Frequent foggy mornings, warm days and cool nights. Average temperatures in summer are 18.9oC and in winter 10.7oC. Mean diurnal shifts in March are 13.1oC. Yearly rainfall is 380 mm on average, falling mostly between May and September. Repeated spring frosts decimated the harvest, and after a very warm and dry growing season, harvest started early, on 28 February 2018.
Ruby red in color. On the nose an exuberant bouquet of dark cherry and cedar is accompanied by savory notes of smoke, moist earth and bramble. In the mouth layered flavors of blackberry and dark chocolate give way to a smoky/mineral finish. A well integrated oak backbone is backed-up by abundant, well-rounded tannins lending excellent length and structure.

(raised in French oak barrels, 21 percent of them new, for 14 months) Bright ruby-red. Ripe, spice-tinged black raspberry, smoked meat, vanilla and incense on the deeply perfumed nose. Intense red and dark berry liqueur and spicecake flavors are lifted and sharpened by a smoky mineral flourish. Concentrated as well as lively, finishing with impressive persistence and sexy notes of candied violet and toasty oak spices.

Lush, with good cut to the brambly flavors of dried cherry and pomegranate, framed by medium-grained tannins. Brick and hot stone notes show on the finish. Drink now through 2020. 500 cases made. –KM
