The strength of the vintage comes forth in the 2017 De Grendel Shiraz. Following up on what was considered one of the finest ever with the 2015 vintage, 2017 came along and many feel is even better. Deep purple in color with violet hints on the rim this is forthcoming with sweet fruit to the fore nuanced with spice, white pepper and a light polished leather note along a hint of chocolate to the blackberry and sweet dark plum tones aromatically. Medium fuller to fuller bodied this is layered with dark and dark red fruit flavors that are mouth filling and rich but in nice balance with the tannins and acidity. Finishing dry and persistent this is still evolving and should show well over the next 6 plus years quite easily. For those with patience this should be a masterpiece with some extra bottle age.
