The Cederberg mountains, located about 160 kilometres north of Cape Town, are home to the Du Toit family. More than 10 years ago, the family planted about 12 acres of vines here, including Pinot Noir vines, from which their neighbour, the renowned winemaker David Nieuwoudt, produced the Driehoek Mieke Pinot Noir, which rapidly became very popular.
The 2020 Driehoek Mieke Pinot Noir has a bouquet redolent of light red fruit reminding of cherries or raspberries. On the palate, it has an engaging supple quality offering a mix of raspberries and cranberries nuanced with spicy notes of cloves and nutmeg. An underlying vein of acidity gives this lift and vibrancy while the fruit is framed by light, silky tannins giving this a sleek textural feel. The finish has good length with lovely earthy nuances adding complexity.
