5 Stars 2021 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
Profound, graceful, 2 years in 92% new oak, a Bordeaux blend as always, cabernet led – 69% in 15 (95 pts) Brooding blackcurrant, mulberry fruit in complex harmony with loam, graphite & crushed herbs. A collector’s item – decant for now.
94 pts Tim Atkin MW 2020
Very much a wine that is built to last, this is ripe, tannic and intense, combining cut grass and green herb aromas with lots of cederwood, cigar box and structured dark berry fruit. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the way, supported by 31% Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Possibly just a little figgy on the finish. 2022-29

The 2015 Lady May, retasted after several months, has a perfumed bouquet that is no longer disjointed as I found before, offering black plum and bilberry fruit, touches of peppermint coming through with aeration. The fresh, vibrant palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, blackberry and strawberry laced with cedar and mint, and still sappy on the finish. A fine Lady May that should drink well for 12–15 years.
Lady May is Glenelly’s flagship Estate wine. Elegant and complex, the wine develops flavors of cassis, blackcurrant, dark cherry, touch of graphite and delicate spicy plum. Fresh and vibrant, the evolution of the wine introduces flavours specific to Glenelly’s terroir . Deeply colored and perfectly balanced, the wine displays an exquisite structure with velvety tannins and a very good ageing capacity.
