When it comes to dry Riesling no one does it better than Australia, in particular, South Australia, with the Clare Valley one of the focal points for this style and superior quality therein. There are numerous producers who make some exceptional examples of dry Riesling in the Clare Valley and one of noted reputation is Jim Barry. We have waxed poetically about the Riesling of Jim Barry in the past and deservedly so, as they are a great representation of the region and the classic dry Riesling the region is so famous for.
This has just come out and it’s another exceptional offering with its laser-like acidity cutting through the citrus, apple and white peach flavors with defining precision. It’s a great call for the warmer months approaching and it won’t break the bank at $15.99 a bottle. There isn’t much available so if you love well made Clare Riesling this is definitely worth getting some before it’s all gone.

Where the 2020 Watervale Riesling is rich and powerful, this 2021 Watervale Riesling is totally in line with the cool and excellent season that was 2021. Mineral, cohesive, harmonious, long and complex, this punches way above its weight as a value wine and shows the concentration and succulence of Clare Valley hand in glove with the taut, citrus acidity. Smart plus.

The tiny village of Watervale (population of 246), nestled in South Australia’s Clare Valley, is renowned for the quality of its Riesling. Our Watervale Riesling is picked from a special part of the Florita vineyard in Watervale. This famous Riesling vineyard usually achieves full ripeness with high natural acid levels.
The 2021 Watervale Riesling has all the hallmarks of a classic Clare Valley Riesling; with fresh cut citrus, lemon grass, yellow peach and white florals on the nose. On the palate, it has a firm acid drive, with an abundance of citrus, white peach, honey dew melons, gooseberries and a fresh lime finish.
