Three different regions – Elgin, the Overberg and (for the first time) Breedekloof – are the sources of this elegant, focused Pinot Noir made by Rudger van Wyk before he left for Doolhof. Goji berry, wild strawberry and Campari spice aromas combine appealingly here, with a layer of extra complexity from 10% whole bunches. 2024-30

Enticing perfume of bright red cherries with hint of spice, 23 (90 pts) has a dainty, fresh feel but also concentration in its sweet fruit & lingering dry conclusion. From Elgin, Overberg & Durbanville, like 22 (89 pts) 20% wholebunch ferment, 10% new oak.
Kara-Tara is focused on hand-crafting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—classic Burgundian varietals—from cool-climate vineyards in the Western Cape. By sourcing premium grapes from diverse cool-climate regions such as Elgin, Overberg, Durbanville, and Stellenbosch, Kara-Tara aims to showcase the potential and quality of South Africa’s top grape growing sites.
Pinot Noir Grapes for the 2023 Pinot Noir are sourced from carefully-selected premium vineyards in the Elgin, Overberg and Durbanville regions. After being crushed into small open tanks, the must is cold-soaked for two days. 30% of the wine is fermented with whole clusters. Only French oak is used for aging, 10% of which is new. Kara-Tara Pinot Noir is an elegant, lightly-wooded style of Pinot Noir showing classic strawberry and red cherry notes coupled with a hint of spice. A firm, yet silky-smooth tannin
structure supports the lovely bright fruit characteristics of the wine.
