Lynx Cabernet Franc 2017

Tasting Notes

A savory cast to the dark fruit on the nose brings forth earth toned notes, a floral lift, some of the varietal’s leafiness, as well as a touch of pencil lead/graphite aromatically. Medium fuller bodied, the palate shows beautiful balance, textural mid palate suppleness with tannins that are finer grained and framing the dark fruit flavors perfectly with a note of graphite on the finish. There are no angular edges here; this is almost seamless with noted length and a finely tuned elegance that speaks of the wine’s pedigree. A real beauty that is showing well now, this should drink wonderfully over the next 2-3 years quite easily.

Consistently among my favourite Franschhoek producers, Lynx offers wines at approachable prices too. This is a case in point, delivering an amazing amount of flavour, texture and perfume at the price. With 30% new oak, it’s a fine, violet-scented red complemented by granular tannins and leafy complexity. 2019-25.
