Mount Fishtail Sur Lie Sauvignon Blanc 2025

Tasting Notes

Resting on lees for six months, this Sauvignon Blanc gains depth and texture. The traditional Sur Lie technique softens the edges, builds mid-palate weight, and weaves notes of brioche, toasted nuts and savoury grains through the vibrant fruit core. Citrus, passionfruit and guava lift the nose; the finish is long, elegant and refreshingly textural.

This mellow and well-rounded sauvignon blanc has dried lemons, limes and aromatic herbs on the nose. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity. Lovely lemon character on the palate, with a juicy finish. Sustainable. Drink now. Screw cap.

Winemaker Notes

High above the plains of Marlborough, New Zealand’s premium wine growing region for Sauvignon Blanc, one can see Mount Fishtail’s peak standing as a sentinel looking over the many quality vineyards in the area. This double peaked mountain is an inspiring omen and lead to a range of wines being released under its name. Each day, these vineyards enjoy a splendid view of

Mount Fishtail in the Richmond Ranges. And each year these grapes produce the characteristic vintages that make the classic Mount Fishtail range of wines.

MAKING A TRUE MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC Marlborough, on the South Island of New Zealand, has gained world recognition for its Sauvignon Blanc wines, grown on alluvial soils. Extensive sunshine hours (over 2500 per annum) and cool nights are the perfect background for this crisp and clean wine with ripe tropical overtones. Mount Fishtail ‘Marlborough’ Sauvignon Blanc is produced from a family owned vineyard in the Wairau Valley. Each year vineyard practices are refined, aiming to reduce inputs while improving fruit quality. Aromas of passionfruit, elderflower, gooseberry, and fresh mint laced with a delicate white flower element lead to a punchy palate with guava and lime. Lees ageing for six months (Sur Lie) develops mid-palate weight adding to the wine’s intense fruit characters. A classical style delivers beautiful line and length: a true Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc!

A COMMITMENT TO HANDCRAFTED WINES Being a family-run business, control over quality is truly ‘hands on”. Quality is the absolute focus of Mount Fishtail wines and it starts in the vineyard. Here, no short cuts are taken in making a truly great wine, and this continues in the winery where ‘handcrafting’ is the applied standard. Being a family-run business, control over quality is truly ‘hands on’. Through every day personal involvement, a focus on quality, and a commitment to wine lovers, makes this a labor of love. Mount Fishtail’s philosophy is: “the best fertilizer is the foot of the farmer”.

Sustainability isn’t a campaign for us — it’s how the place stays. Mount Fishtail is certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ), and every decision in the vineyard, the cellar, and on the bottle is held against the same question: does this leave the land better than we found it?
Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand is the country’s independent third-party certification programme. It audits vineyards and wineries against measurable standards — water use, soil health, biodiversity, energy, social responsibility — and we’re audited annually. The badge isn’t a promise; it’s a record.
