April 2017 – The 2014 Alfredo Dried Grape Shiraz was sourced from the family’s Riverina vineyards in Griffith and their McLaren Vale vineyard in South Australia. Made in an Amarone style, after picking the grapes were dried on special racks to increase concentration, textural richness and flavor intensity. After fermentation the wines were then aged in American and French oak for 12 months. A deep dark purple color, the nose offers up spice scented dark berry and cherry fruit that are brooding and perfumed. The palate is fuller bodied, plush, concentrated and layered with sweet black and blue fruit flavors accentuated with some pepper spice and suggestions of vanilla. The tannins are ripe and velvety smooth bringing this to a warm and lingering conclusion. This is a wine that is made for those who want a full-on style with big fruit flavors and textural richness and smooth, supple tannins. Drinking well as we speak this should continue to drink impressively over the next 3-4 years.

92 pts Tanzer/Vinous (JR) – Dark purple. Ripe, spice-accented cherry and dark berries on the deeply perfumed nose. Lush and open-knit, offering palate-coating blueberry and cherry-vanilla flavors sharpened by a suggestion of cracked pepper. Closes sweet and long, with velvety tannins fading smoothly into the wine’s plush black and blue fruit. I was strongly reminded of a Turley wine.
