This is a beautiful example of a McLaren Vale Shiraz with an enthralling aromatic profile – assorted kitchen spices, allspice, cardamom, black pepper and sweet vanillin to the black fruit core, while the palate displays mouth coating fruit and excellent fruit weight giving it depth and intensity, everything in perfect balance. Firmer tannins on the backend play off nicely against the sweet dark fruits with some of the wine’s spiciness playing out on the impressively long finish. Still a baby, this should be allowed to open up for a good 30 minutes before you should even start to drink it. Otherwise lay this down for a year or two and enjoy for a good number of years after that.

The Nugan Estate Single Vineyard Collection is a label dedicated to showcasing the best signature varietals from Australia’s finest wine growing regions. It’s otherwise known as the “Regional Hero” concept. The winemaking team at Nugan Estate work hard to craft each wine so it reflects its unique varietal and regional characteristics. Perched in the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges, above the township of Kangarilla, McLaren Parish Vineyard with its sandy duplex soils and sclerophyll woodland surroundings, produces deeply colored fruit with thick skins. The site’s higher altitude and cooler conditions, enable a longer ripening period, resulting in wines of persistence, elegance, and poise. While McLaren Vale is already well known for making some of the world’s best Shiraz, there are pockets within it that are extra special. This is truly a remarkable site, as is evidenced in this wine.

Chris D. Clark –
My wife and I have had some very nice wines from the McLaren Vale region, especially the region’s trademark shiraz offerings. This Nugan Estate shiraz is excellent, one of the best we’ve had, with the enjoyable and typical spiciness of the varietal. Hope to be ordering more soon,
Libby G –
Glad you enjoyed Chris!
