About this Wine
Our rosé is a captivating blend of Shiraz and Grenache grapes. The Shiraz imparts structure and intensity, while the Grenache contributes a delicate, fruit-forward character. The synergy of these varieties, coupled with meticulous winemaking, results in a rosé that stands as a testament to South Africa’s wine producing prowess. This wine displays characteristics very similar to those found in a rosé from Provence. It is a wonderfully dry, fruity wine with delicate pomegranate and cranberry aromas complimented by subtle hints of rose petal. On the palate these are joined by savory, almost biscuity flavors underlined by crisp acidity and a long finish. The Painted Wolf name embodies the spirit of the endangered African wild dog, symbolizing a dedication to community, persistence, and collaboration. In homage to the painted wolf, a portion of our profits is donated to conservation efforts aimed at protecting this majestic creature. With every bottle of our rosé, you are partaking in a cause for nature while immersing yourself in a sensory celebration.
The grapes for this wine were sourced from Knolerfontein Farm in the Voor Paardeberg ward of Paarl. Knolerfontein is the largest Pinotage vineyard in the world. During the last two weeks of January the grapes were hand-harvested into small crates and taken to the cellar where a portion was whole-bunch pressed. The remainder was destalked, gently crushed and cooled before being left on the skins for six hours. Juice was then drawn off the skins and cold-fermented in a stainless steel tank. The saignee portion and whole bunch fermented wine were then blended to achieve this pale pink colored wine. Only the lightest and most elegant free run juice was used. In total 13,200 bottles were produced.
