95 Points Bob Campbell
An aroma of sweet dark plum, white pepper and five spice, with notes of cola bean and blueberry. The palate is velvety soft, has ripe fleshy fruit flavors of plum and blueberry, hints of baked fruit tart, five spice, white pepper and a sweet vanilla oak. The finish is firm with fine ripe tannins and long spicy prune and anise flavors. A bright, food friendly wine, with spicy notes.

92 pts Decanter
Olive, blackberry, freshly cut meat, with fresh peppercorn aromas. The palate is fresh with chewy notes and hints of olive and plum. A warming finish with a nice texture throughout. Very pleasant.

Winemaker Notes

Paritua is located in the heart of the acclaimed Bridge Pa Triangle wine region of Hawke’s Bay, on the East Coast of New Zealand’s North Island. The name Paritua refers to the Paritua Stream, which meanders gently through the vineyard. Paritua means the meandering stream above the ancient river.

The winery was founded by an American couple and planting of the vineyard began in 2003. The choice of rootstock was inspired by the wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux. In 2011, the winery was sold to an international company, which is committed to maintaining the high quality Paritua is known for.

Stone Paddock Syrah comes from two clones of Syrah are grown on the Triangle vineyard.
Soils are stony river gravels with a silt loam cover. The loam top layer varies in depth from 50cm deep to being completely absent. This causes some variation in ripening, with the silty areas producing slightly higher degrees of pepper notes and the stones providing the riper floral and fruit spectrum.
Fruit thinning is essential, and the canopy is fastidiously managed to allow good sunlight and airflow over the grapes.
