Guerrero Cabernet Sauvignon is produced by the prestigious Domus Aurea property. The pedigree of the fruit for Guerrero goes back almost 75 years when many of these Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted. The nose displays hints of raspberries, plum and blackberries with notes of mocha. In the mouth the fruit is rich with velvety tannins, balanced with bright mineral notes and a long, complex finish.

Winemaker Notes

Maipo Valley was one of the more severely affected by drought and summer heat. Nevertheless, in our three vineyards in the Alto Macul we had a good water supply, which allowed us to irrigate normally and achieve excellent grape ripeness. Although yields were affected by the summer heat, grape health and quality were optimal. The wines have good color and fine, velvety textures with firm, persistent tannins and plenty of juiciness.

Vinification was traditional, as all Peñalolen vintages, with a slow and long extraction. After 21 days macerating, part of the wine goes to 3rd use french barrel during 18 months , medium and light toast, coming mainly from Center France, Tronçais and Nièvre forest. The other 30% stays in steel tanks to preserve fruit and brightness. Soft finning with egg whites and a light filtration finish the process.

A deep and brilliant garnet with slight purple shades announces a nose with minty and balsamic tones. Also, red fruits like raspberries, cherries and currants above an earthy background with herbals notes and spicy roasted red pepper. The mouth expresses elegance, starting with a silky texture. Then, it grows through a good volume but keeps a good balance thanks to its structure made of fine and fully integrated tannins. The finish is all about spicy macerated berries and is just beginning to show its complexity.
