Bruwer Raats is a Chenin Blanc specialist, and the current release of this introductory Chenin Blanc of his is a beauty and another one of those wines that brings tremendous value, making it a must for those looking for exceptional quality on the cheap. Chenin Blanc is no longer being looked at as an afterthought varietal and this new perspective has helped to push South Africa to the forefront of this new heightened awareness of its over delivering quality. Our ears on the ground in South Africa told us to be on the lookout for the 2020 Original Chenin and the heads up was spot on. This is Chenin Blanc in its purest form, no wood here at all, and its medium bodied frame features vibrant, lifted fruit to the core and bright acidity giving it noted length on the backend. The 2020 Original Chenin Blanc has a little bit more of everything than previous vintages and this illustrates why only South Africa can bring this quality at this price point. For those of you in the ‘anything but Chardonnay’ crowd, or for that matter just looking for an exceptional white that has tremendous diversity, then this it one of those wines you are going to want to pay attention to. Exceptional juice for the money.

90 pts Wine Advocate June 2022
Unwooded, the 2020 Original Chenin Blanc begins with a bright, classic and expressive nose with elements of apple and quince paste, lime candy, yellow apples, pineapple and hints of wax melon. Medium-bodied, the wine bursts with bright acidity on the palate—making it perfect for fresh seafood, salads and hard cheeses—before somersaulting to a long, lingering finish with a kiss of phenolic bitterness. Bravo, this is delicious. 2021-2030
Original Chenin is crafted without the use of any oak in order to preserve the wine’s “Original,” vibrant fresh fruit character. Now in its 19th year of production, it boasts an unquestionable consistency in quality and style. Bursting with fresh fruit flavors, this vibrant wine displays a distinctive yellow apple and pineapple core, alongside notes of green melon and limes. The wine reveals zesty citrus flavors and a long mineral finish.
