4 ½ Stars 2022 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
Sure-footed successor to elegant 18 (90 pts), 19 (90 pts) good core of herb-tinged black fruit, ripe & succulent. Density & concentration spot on, as is house’s signature quarter new-oak maturation for a year.
100% Shiraz
All grapes were hand-picked and sorted twice before a pure yeast culture was inoculated. The juice was pumped over the skins 3-5 times per day for 5 days. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was drained of the primary lees and transferred to a resting tank. Malolactic fermentation and a brief settling period preceded the wine to a combination of 225 litre barrels of French and American oak types.
Dark ruby colour with liquorice and vanilla on the nose. Lots of herb-tinge with black, dark and jammy fruit. Palate is smooth and elegant with a full mid-palate. Vanilla, cigarbox and chocolate on the refined finish. Earthy and savoury
