Alta Vista Atemporal Red Blend 2017

94 pts James Suckling April 2020

Blackberries, blueberries and hints of rose stem undertones. Medium to full body. Firm tannins with freshness and energy. A blend of malbec, cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. Needs time to soften. Try after 2022 and onwards.

91 pts Wine Advocate October 2019

The red blend 2017 Atemporal was 53% Malbec, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot, a blend that changes with the vintage, but it's always produced with fruit from their vineyard in Vista Flores. It fermented in concrete vats and matured in 50/50 second and third use oak barrels for 12 months. They love to blend at Alta Vista (it's their Champagne roots!), and I must say this Bordeaux blend rocks. I'm not a fan of Petit Verdot on its own, but I think it's a grape that contributes a lot to blends. It's spicy, herbal and peppery, with ripeness but without excess. They have started using some larger barrels, not just 225-liter ones, so the oaking is subtler and the aromas and flavors are very integrated and in the background. 34,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2019.

Thistledown Thorny Devil Grenache 2021 - last bottle

95 points Wine Advocate July 2022

Aromas of savory spice, hung deli meat and blood fill the senses, but it is in the mouth where the purity and succulence of the fruit is revealed. This 2021 Thorny Devil Grenache is long and savory, sweet and fine, built into a framework of pliable tannin and exotic spice. Balanced and exciting.

Casas del Bosque Gran Reserva Carmenere 2019

2022 Wine Spectator Top 100 #60 - 91 pts Wine Spectator

A well-structured and vibrant effort, with dried lavender and geranium notes paving the way for crunchy cherry and cranberry flavors. Packs plenty of mineral acidity, with a finish that persists around the core flavors. Best after 2023.

4 ½ Stars 2022 Platter’s South African Wine Guide

Mostly mourvedre & shiraz, splashes cab & grenache noir in 18 (92 pts). Attractive charcuterie, white pepper & plum notes, pomergranite acidity. New oak deftly scaled back a tad, to 30% new, 18 months. Softer & more approachable than last but certainly no rush.
