About this Wine

The dry, warm mid-summer meant that we had low disease pressure and we went into veraison with the vines in excellent condition. The grapes had even ripening and good yields with excellent aromas and acidity.

Details of vinification and oaking: We have one block on the farm that is quite different from all the other blocks. Because it sits at the bottom of a steep slope, as well as being very close to a river, it has a number of different geological influences: there are multiple soil types in this small block. Faced with this difficult situation, we tried to turn it into a positive and decided to plant a mix of varieties that could be picked together to make up one wine. In 2024, most of the grapes were picked in multiple passes. It was then pressed and co-fermented together. The juice was barrel fermented in neutral oak — just a small percentage (±5%) of new oak was used. It was aged for 9 months in barrel and tank with regular lees stirring.

Tasting Notes

That old saying, “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts” is the inspiration when blending this wine. The idea is to find the perfect
balance between the richness and texture of Roussanne and Viognier and to balance that with the bright fruit and acidity of Chenin Blanc and Verdelho.

This wine is barrel fermented in mostly neutral French oak enhancing a beautifully
textured mouthfeel. The wine undergoes only a light fining and is bottled with minimal filtration, ensuring a pure and expressive profile. Led by Roussanne, it offers a delicate floral perfume, well-structured body and balanced acidity.

5 Stars 2026 John Platter’s South African Wine Guide
White blossom, golden pear & flint enchant on 24 (95 pts). Multiple picks & co-ferment of interplanted roussanne (44%), chenin, verdelho & viognier. Well ripened, with depth & texture, enhanced by 9 months older oak, regularly stirred, just 5% new barrels gives hint of marzipan. Lovely dry, lime lift encourages another sip.

95 Points & Gold Medal – Decanter World Wine Awards 2025
A cornucopia of melon, nectarine and lemon sizzles alongside the pithy texture and succulent acidity, with a dash of cooling menthol to seal the deal.

94 pts Tim Atkin MW 2025
Picked in several tranches over the space of ten days, this is a superb white blend that never lets you down. Roussanne based with support from 32% Chenin Blanc, 16% Verdelho and 8% Viognier, it’s perfumed, intense and refreshing, with plenty of zip, aromas of citrus, pear and orange zest, a touch of passion fruit sweetness and fine 10% new oak. 2025-29

90 pts Vinous Oct 2025
The 2024 Field Blend comprises Roussanne, Chenin Blanc, Verdelho and Viognier, with a small amount aged in amphora for nine months with regular lees stirring. This has a lovely bouquet with wild peach, apricot and subtle lanolin scents, the Viognier quite expressive even though it constitutes 8% of the blend. The palate is well balanced with a brisk line of acidity, just a touch of spiciness coming through courtesy of lemongrass and ginger. Not a complex white field blend, but well balanced with plenty of freshness.
