4 ½ Stars 2021 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
Chenin (42%) co-planted with roussanne, verdelho & viognier, picked in multiple passes then fermented together in combo older barrels & concrete ‘eggs’. Focused, poised 19 (93 pts) has vibrant floral aromas, fresh citrus & stonefruit, long pithy finish.
This is a barrel-fermented white blend of Chenin Blanc (42%), Roussanne (30%), Verdelho (17%) and Viognier (11%). This is a single-vineyard wine from the first vineyard you see when you drive on to our Oude Nektar farm. It is a tricky block, with a mix of soils and we tried to turn that into a positive by planting it as a blend. The grapes are all picked at the same time and pressed and fermented together as a true “field blend” 100% barrel fermented in mostly older, neutral oak. An elegant blend combining the richness of Roussanne and Viognier with the bright fruits and natural acidity of Chenin and Verdelho.
