55 is a reference to the age of this remarkable dry land vineyard, which was planted in 1964. Wild yeast fermented in 16% new wood, the resulting wine is a Chenin that combines intensity and concentration with focus and precision. Pasty, quince and citrus flavours are complimented by refined oak spice. 2022-29
Grapes for this wine is harvested from a 55 year old single vineyard of Chenin blanc on the slopes of the Bottelary Hills, hence the number on the front of the bottle referring to the age of the vines in the year the wine was made.
