Rebecca May is a GCS blend of Grenache with 22% each of Cinsault and Syrah. Floral, scented and appealing, with potpourri and rose petal notes, lots of clove and pepper spices from 80% whole bunches, pomegranate and cranberry fruit and a kiss of oak. 2022-27

Winemaker Notes

56% Cinsaut, 22% Syrah, 22% Grenache

Produced in a southern-Rhone style, this medium-bodied red blend is made from grapes sourced from a couple of regions in the Western Cape. The Cinsaut is from old bush vines in Darling, which tend to ripen at much lower alcohol levels and contribute delicate fruit and incredibly perfumed aromatics. The Grenache is also from Darling and made in a lighter style to compliment the juicy Cinsaut. The Syrah grapes are sourced from a small vineyard in Constantia Nek. All the Cinsaut and Grenache grapes were fermented as whole bunches with about 6 days of carbonic maceration preceding the alcoholic fermentation. The Syrah was vinified separately with 50% whole-bunch and 50% destemmed grapes. Very gentle extraction during fermentation was achieved by daily punch-downs and after separating the wine by means of a basket press, the wine was matured for 9 months in 3rd and 4th fill French oak barrels before bottling.

This wine is crafted to express delicate red fruit flavours such as raspberry and boysenberry. The whole-bunch fermentation lends additional freshness, structure, and persistence to the palate. Once the wine opens up, the bouquet develops encouraging floral notes of pressed violets and lavender. The mouth-filling texture and medium-bodied palate provides good balance and drinkability. Production only 5172 bottles.
