Very fresh and attractive lime and passion-fruit aromas and flavors here. There’s a fine and long feel to the palate. Acidity slides the fresh, ripe fruit in fresh and long. Drink now. Screw cap.

Vavasour was the first to exploit the Awatere Valley subregion of Marlborough, and the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc displays almost honeyed apricot notes accented by hints of citrus and faint herbal notes. There’s ample concentration in the mouth, with a gentle chalky feel on the finish. Most Awatere wines show more green character than this one, but this is a nice, plump, medium-bodied effort that’s distinctive in its own right.

You can see the influence of the more ocean-influenced Awatere Valley in this wine. It takes the shape of jalapeños, tomato stems and white spices. There’s a lovely balance of limy fruit and florals. And on the palate, that harmony continues with a textural mouthfeel lifted by crisp acidity and bright fruit.
