Vina Alicia Tiara 2024

Tasting Notes

A boutique winery in the truest sense of the word, Vina Alicia produces around 8,000 cases of wine, almost entirely red, sourced from two vineyard blocks that are located in what is undeniably one of Mendoza’s best red wine zones, Lujan du Cujo. The one white wine they produce, Tiara, is one of the more unique and interesting white blends you will find just about anywhere

Vina Alicia has an extensive viticultural propagation program that allows them to experiment with all kinds of unique varietals from all over the world. This experimental program has yielded one of Argentina’s, if not all of South America’s, most interesting white wines: Viña Alicia Tiara. The small amount of white wine they produce is an eclectic blend of some obscure varietals (Riesling, Albariño, and Savagnin) that makes it quite unique and exotic. Sourced from grapes grown at the ten hectare San Alberto vineyard, which surrounds the winery, Tiara production is minuscule, coming in at around four to five hundred six-packs per vintage. The current 2024 vintage of the Tiara is a  blend of 50% Riesling, 40% Albariño, and 10% Savagnin, respectively. It was fermented in stainless steel and left on its lees for a year. It may be one of the finest we have tried yet. The nose is quite engaging, offering good aromatic intensity with notes of lemon/citrus and yellow stone fruit/nectarine that broadens on the palate with notes of melon added to the mix giving mid-palate breadth.  Solid reviews from Vinous and the Wine Spectator speak highly of its quality.

Awards/Reviews

93 pts Vinous April 2025
The 2024 White Blend Tiara, a distinctive mix of 50% Riesling, 40% Albariño and 10% Savagnin from Luján de Cuyo, is aromatically intense for an aged white. It opens with nutty, woody aromas, caramel and tropical fruit like papaya and melon. Broad and creamy on the palate, with a touch of malic tension, it finishes with lingering white fruit over oak. Still coming together, but the pieces are in place. Intriguing.

90 pts Wine Spectator July 2026
Shows a bright note of jasmine, with a honeycomb detail that joins a quaffable mix of vibrant nectarine and Meyer lemon. There’s a refreshing saline edge to the finish that lingers alongside a touch of ruby red grapefruit. Riesling, Albariño and Savagnin. Drink now. 500 cases made, 250 cases imported.
