This wine is the antithesis to a heavy oaked style. Unoaked and weighing in at only 13% alcohol, this was stainless steel fermented, with lees stirring adding nice mid palate textural richness, an undercurrent of zesty acidity adds vibrancy and lift to the assorted melon, citrus and apple flavors leading to juicy mouthwatering finish. This is drinking beautifully and should show well over the next couple of years.

Opening scents of lightly toasted spice, brioche and wood-grilled apple lead the nose, with supporting roles from hints of orange blossom and star anise. The palate is bright and focused, with precise acidity that guides the bright citrus and tart apple flavors through to the mouthwatering finish. With time, the finish evolves into notes of toast and spice.
3 ½ Stars 2019 Platter’s South African Wine Guide
Easy going, likable 18 lemon, melon & floral tones, zesty acidity & light texture. No oak but good palate weight & fresh citrus persistence.
The First Lady range of wines are a tribute to Norma Ratcliffe. The founder and first winemaker at Warwick estate and of the first women to make wine in South Africa. This wine is the exception to the rule for many that do not enjoy Chardonnay. It is elegantly crafted to highlight the amazing fruit and texture of Chardonnay.
The Warwick The First Lady Unoaked Chardonnay flows into the glass with a pale straw yellow with green hues. The bouquet unfolds a wonderful citrus aroma, ranging from lemon to lime to orange peel, with a healthy dose of apple blossom which hints to its ethereal nature. On the palate just-ripe pineapple, apple and lemony freshness is underscored by a subtle wet stone salinity. A gently textured mouthful draws into a bright yet lingering acidity.
