95 pts Tim Atkin MW 2021
Often among my favourite Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignons, this textbook Helderberg red was blended with 3% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc in 2017. Scented, refined and effortlessly dense and complex, with aromatic 30% new wood, mocha, cedarwood and cassis flavours and a long, balanced, refreshing finish. 2022-30

Compact & youthful 17 (93 pts) is pure cab, showing classic cassis & lead pencil aromas & firm, supple tannins. 36% new-oak maturation well integrated. Whole berry ferment.

A mentholated, herbal top note leads the nose of this red, which has a core of brambly blackberry and boysenberry. The palate is plush and balanced, with rich black fruit flavors that are surrounded by fine tannins and soft acidity to keep the richness in check. Final hits of licorice and woody spice grace the close.
Our Cabernet Sauvignon is the leading varietal on Waterford Estate, thanks to the optimal terroir found on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain. Our region is known as the golden triangle, due to the number of award-winning wines it produces. The Helderberg is widely considered as the top Cabernet producing area in the country. Our Cabernet Sauvignon is characterised by earthy aromatics, well-textured tannins and fresh finishes. These are some of the factors that contribute towards the area being renowned and distinguished for the longevity of its wines and therefore its investment value.
