Zuccardi Concreto Malbec

95 pts James Suckling
What a perfumed nose with plenty of violets, iodine, blueberries and mineral. Lots of sappy fruit with fine-grained tannins that tightly wrap the full-bodied palate. Pristine, concentrated and quintessential. A selection of the stoniest soils from Paraje Altamira. 100% whole-bunch fermentation. Needs at least two years to soften the tannins. Drink from 2025

94 pts Vinous
The 2022 Malbec Concreto comes from the Uco Valley and was fermented in whole bunches before spending a winter in concrete vats. A rich purple in the glass. The fruit-forward, primary nose delivers enticing notes of violet and plum along with blueberry, cherry and sage. Dry and muscular on the palate, the chalky, restrained tannins and juicy flow produce a compact, vibrant mouthfeel. This is a textured, intentionally no-nonsense red.

92 pts Wine Spectator
Deeply aromatic, with blood orange and plumeria notes and a palate of spiced plum and sour cherry, plus a pleasant wave of minerally acidity chiming in and carrying the flavors on to the finish. Drink now through 2030.

Winemaker Notes

Concreto is a very important wine in my life. Beginning to make it was a key step on our way. With it, we managed to free ourselves from ties and to deepen our confidence in the place where we cultivate.

With Concreto we seek to “undress” the wine, enhance its expression of the place and reveal the texture imparted by the calcareous soils of the Uco Valley. We select only the most stony and calcareous plots of the vineyard and vinify with the whole bunch, as was done in the past.

Fermentation and storage are done completely in concrete vessels without epoxy, to avoid the influence of aromas and flavors which do not come from the vineyard, and to amplify the texture that conveys the energy of the Uco Valley.
Sebastián Zuccardi

The 2022 vintage was fresh and well balanced. The particular combination of high insolation with low temperatures allowed the vine to ripen steadily and keep its natural acidity intact. These conditions gave rise to elegant, fine and complex wines, with a great balance between juiciness and freshness.

Fermentation with native yeasts in concrete amphorae. All of the grapes ferment with whole bunches. Aged in concrete vessels.
